Monty’s has a rich history dating all the way back to 1856, and we have been located in the old English, Scottish & Australian bank building since 1968.
Monty’s was originally established on George Street in Sydney under the name N.S.W Monte De Piete, the French translation of the term pawnbroker; a place where advances are given against items at a fair price. In 1883 N.SW Monte De Piete moved into a new building located on Castlereagh Street in Sydney, right next door to Cartier. Monty’s continued to expand and opened new offices in Newcastle and Melbourne, as well as heading over the border and opening the Brisbane store in 1900. In 1966 we rebranded to Monty’s and in 1968 moved from the famous Rex Theatre right next door to our current home.
Monty’s continued serving the Brisbane community and in 2022 underwent a full transformation, with a stunning refurbishment of our retail store and a complete rebranding focused on our heritage.
